Hockey fans in Beveridge delighted by meet and greet with Melbourne Cobras

Melbourne Cobras players visited Beveridge Primary School’s Ambrosia campus on Wednesday 28 October 2026 for a free after-school hockey session.

The Cobras are Melbourne’s new Hockey One team. Their squad brings together Victorian players and current and former Indian hockey players.

Children and families met the players on the courts for a hit. There were many delighted kids asking for photos, getting autographs from the team, and picking up some Cobras merchandise.

The session was run by Hockey Victoria and the Melbourne Cobras with support by Mitchell Shire Council. Mayor John Dougall, Deputy Mayor Timothy Hanson, Councillor Claudia James, Councillor Bob Cornish and Mitchell Shire CEO Mary Agostino joined Hockey Victoria CEO Andrew Skillern at the session. Evan Mulholland MP and Michael Trenery also attended.

Why the Cobras came to Beveridge

We’re working with Hockey Victoria on a new high-performance multipurpose sports facility in Beveridge. It’s planned as the home base for the Cobras and their pathway programs. It will also be a hub for local sport, giving athletes across Mitchell Shire access to top-level training, coaching and mentoring close to home.

What’s coming up next

The Melbourne Cobras are launching their next free 4-week Junior Cobras Hockey Program at Seymour Collage. Running for 4 Thursday afternoons starting from 29 October. Even if you missed the first one, they’re still taking registrations at Hockey Victoria Junior Cobras Hockey Program/
