NSW police charge man and woman after multiple pursuits

A man and woman have been charged with traffic and property offences after multiple police pursuits in the state’s north.

About 10.20am yesterday (Tuesday 5 November 2019), police received reports of a fail to pay incident at a service station in Moree. Inquiries revealed the vehicle was allegedly stolen from an address in Toowoomba, Queensland in August 2019 and had been involved in a number of fail to pay incidents since that date.

About 10.45am yesterday, police located and attempted to stop the stolen car at Edgroi. A pursuit was initiated and was terminated a short time later.

Officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District located the vehicle travelling south on the Newell Highway near Coonabarabran.

Police engaged in a further pursuit and road spikes were successfully deployed approximately 12km from the township.

The vehicle continued before losing control while attempting to manoeuvre around traffic.

It is alleged the two occupants, a 29-year-old woman and 26-year-old man, ran from the car into a nearby paddock where they were arrested by police.

The pair were taken to Coonabarabran Police Station and later transferred to Coonabarabran Hospital for treatment.

The woman was charged with 11 offences, including:

  • Larceny
  • Police pursuit (x2)
  • Use Class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate
  • Not keep left of dividing line (x3)
  • Licence expired less than two years before
  • Use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle
  • Use uninsured motor vehicle
  • Aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm

She was bail refused to appear before Dubbo Local Court today (Wednesday 6 November 2019).

The man will be issued a future court attendance notice relating to a clear resealable bag containing a crystal substance which was located at the scene.
