NSW police charge man over 2015 attempted murder at St Clair and drug supply

A man has been charged over alleged drug supply and the attempted murder of another man outside a home in Sydney’s west in 2015.

In November 2015, the Criminal Groups Squad’s Strike Force Raptor commenced an investigation into the activities of an organised criminal network operating across Sydney.

As part of the broader investigation, Strike Force Raptor has also been conducting inquiries into a shooting in September 2015, which was believed to be linked to the group.

Just before 8pm on Monday 7 September 2015, a 49-year-old man was shot in the leg while he was standing in the driveway of a home on Shadlow Crescent, St Clair. He was taken to Westmead Hospital to undergo surgery and has since been released.

As part of their investigation, police executed a search warrant at a home on McKay Street, Dundas Valley, on Thursday 10 September 2015, where they located and seized ammunition, clothing, fraudulent numberplates, and chemicals.

Following extensive inquiries, including forensic and ballistic testing, detectives arrested a 26-year-old man at a corrections facility at Cessnock about 9.30am today (Tuesday 12 November 2019).

He was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with shoot at with intent to murder, discharge firearm etc intend cause grievous bodily harm, and supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity).

Police will allege in court that the man produced a firearm and shot a man at St Clair.

It will also be alleged that the man agreed to supply 500g of methylamphetamine in November 2016.

The man has been remanded in custody to appear at Newcastle Local Court today.
