NSW police charge man over alleged Greenacre carjacking

A man will appear in court today over an alleged carjacking in Sydney’s south-west last weekend.

About 4:20pm on Saturday (16 March 2019), police will allege a woman arranged to meet with two men outside a home on Mahogany Way, Greenacre, regarding an online advertisement for a 2014 black Mercedes A45 AMG.

One of the men entered the vehicle with the 34-year-old woman, who was heavily pregnant, and two children – a 10-year-old boy and an eight-year-old girl – for a test drive.

The vehicle stopped at the intersection of Maiden and Norfolk streets, Greenacre, and the man entered the driver’s seat.

It’s alleged the man drove away and the woman fell over after attempting to grab hold of the door.

The car stopped down the road and the children exited, before it drove away.

The woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for bruising and grazes, however, the children were uninjured.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, about 10.30am yesterday (Thursday 21 March 2019), a 20-year-old man was arrested at a house on Mereil Street, Campbelltown.

He was taken to Campbelltown Police Station and charged with aggravated assault with intent to take/drive motor vehicle, aggravated robbery, and take/detain for advantage.

The Campbelltown man was refused bail and is due to appear in Campbelltown Local Court today (Friday 22 March 2019).

Police are still seeking a second man and the stolen Mercedes.
