A man will face court today charged over the alleged attempted robbery of a bank and the armed robbery of a pharmacy yesterday
About 10.30am (Wednesday 19 August 2020), a man entered a bank on the Old Princes Highway, Sutherland, and allegedly threatened staff with a knife, demanding cash, stating he had a gun.
The security screens were activated, and the man fled empty-handed in a Holden Cruze.
Officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced inquiries.
About 11.30am, officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command responded to reports of an armed robbery at a pharmacy on the Hume Highway, Liverpool.
Police were told a man, armed with a hammer, entered the store and allegedly threatened staff, demanding cash and drugs.
The staff members were able to seek refuge in a storage area and the man ran from the store, fleeing in a Holden Cruze.
Following extensive inquiries by Sutherland Shire and Liverpool Police Area Commands, an off-duty police officer recognised the man at a shop on the Princes Highway at Blakehurst about 5.40pm.
The 42-year-old was arrested and taken to Sutherland Police Station where he was charged with attempted robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, robbery armed with offensive weapon, unaccompanied learner, and receive/dispose stolen property.
The Sylvania Waters man was refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court today (Thursday 20 August 2020).
