NSW police charge man over home invasion

A man will appear in court today charged following an alleged home invasion in Sydney’s east earlier this week.

Just after 7.30pm on Tuesday (21 July 2020), officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command were called to a home on Rawson Avenue, Queens Park, after reports a man had been assaulted.

A 43-year-old man was at home with his two children when two men – one who is known to him – allegedly knocked on the front door and forced entry into the home.

The man was allegedly assaulted and threatened with a firearm, while the men demanded money. They fled the scene a short time later after police were called by another resident. The man did not require hospitalisation.

Officers established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

During a search of the area, a replica firearm and motor vehicle were seized nearby to undergo forensic examination.

Following inquiries, a 29-year-old man was arrested at Waverley Police Station about 1.30pm yesterday (Thursday 23 July 2020).

He was charged with specially aggravated enter dwelling with intent – dangerous weapon.

The Waverley man was refused bail to appear before Waverley Local Court today (Friday 24 July 2020).
