NSW police charge man over roof scam

An Irish National has been arrested at Sydney International airport in relation to an alleged roofing scam across Sydney.

Police will allege the 41-year-old man posed as a tradesman and defrauded a 70-year-old woman of $103,500 after conducting unfinished work on the roof of a home in Dover Heights between January 2019 and February 2019.

The matter was reported to police and officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command commenced an investigation.

About 8.50pm yesterday (Tuesday 26 May 2020), officers arrested the man at Sydney International Airport.

He was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with eight counts of dishonestly obtain benefit by deception.

He was refused bail to appear before Central Local Court today (Wednesday 27 May 2020).
