NSW police charge man over sexual act on train

A man will appear in court next month charged after allegedly performing a sexual act on a train in Sydney’s south last week.

About 2pm on Friday 9 October 2020, a 23-year-old woman was travelling on a southbound train from Town Hall, when an unknown man sitting near got her attention and allegedly committed a sexual act in front of her.

The woman alighted the train and notified police.

Officers from the Police Transport Command commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, a 28-year-old man was arrested at Hurstville Railway Station just after 2pm today (Thursday 15 October 2020).

During a search of the man’s backpack, police sezied a knife and knuckle dusters.

He was taken to Kogarah Police Station and charged with carry out sexual act with another without consent, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permission and custody of knife in a public place.

The Carlton man was granted conditional bail to appear before Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday 3 November 2020.
