A man has been charged after a police pursuit through Taree last night.
About 8.30pm (Friday 29 May 2020), Highway Patrol officers from Manning Great Lakes Police District noticed a silver Holden Commodore travelling at an alleged speed of 170kph in a signposted 100kph zone on the Pacific Highway at Nabiac.
Officers caught up to the vehicle and attempted to pull it over, however, it failed to stop.
A pursuit was initiated heading northbound on the Pacific Highway and continued to the intersection of Godfrey Hill Road, Koorainghat, when the Commodore attempted to make a right turn and lost control.
The vehicle stopped on the median strip where police approached and arrested the 39-year-old male driver.
He was breath tested at the scene and allegedly provided a positive result. He was arrested and taken to Taree Police Station where he underwent a breath analysis which returned a reading in the Special Range category.
He was charged with police pursuit – Speed dangerous, driving while disqualified, special range PCA, drive unregistered vehicle, use uninsured vehicle, use unauthorised plates, and goods in custody. He was also charged with an outstanding warrant.
He was refused bail and will appear in Taree Bail Court today (Saturday 30 May 2020).
