NSW police charge man with armed robbery near Wollongong

A man has been charged following an alleged armed robbery in Balgownie earlier this year.

About 11pm on Monday 17 August 2020, a man – armed with a firearm – entered licensed premises on Balgownie Road, Balgownie, and allegedly threatened two employees.

The man demanded cash before leaving the scene on a motorcycle and riding north on Church Street, Balgownie.

No one was physically injured during the incident.

Officers from Wollongong Police District attended and commenced an investigation.

Following extensive inquiries, about 3.45pm yesterday (Monday 7 December 2020), a 32-year-old man was arrested at a home on Amaral Avenue, Albion Park and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.

The man was charged with robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon, aggravated break and enter and robbery armed with an offensive weapon.

He was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Tuesday 8 December 2020).

Inquiries are continuing.
