NSW police charge man with assault at Goulburn

A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting another man in Goulburn earlier this week.

About 5.50pm Tuesday (21 April 2020), a 63-year-old man was walking along Auburn Street, Goulburn, when he became involved in an argument with a 32-year-old man.

The older man was allegedly struck by the younger man, causing him to hit his head on the concrete as he fell to the ground.

The younger man fled the scene on foot and emergency services were called by a passer-by.

The older man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics, before being taken to Goulburn Hospital with head injuries. He was later transferred to Canberra Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Officers from The Hume Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following inquiries, a 32-year-old man was arrested at a home on Bradley Street, Goulburn about 8.50am today (Thursday 23 April 2020).

The man was taken to Goulburn Police Station, where he was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and reckless grievous bodily harm in company.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Wollongong Local Court via AVL today (Thursday 23 April 2020).
