NSW police charge man with assaulting police officer and member of public in Sydney CBD

A man has been charged with allegedly assaulting a police officer and a member of the public in Sydney’s CBD yesterday.

Police will allege that just before 4pm (Friday 20 September 2019), a 51-year-old man was walking along Park Street with a friend, when an unknown man punched him in the head without provocation.

The man continued walking and police were notified.

Officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command located and approached the man on Castlereagh Street, where he punched one of the male constables in the face.

The 38-year-old Darlinghurst man was arrested and taken to Day Street Police Station where he was charged with common assault and assault police.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 21 September 2019).

The 51-year-old man suffered minor injuries, and the officer attended hospital to be treated for minor injuries and has since been discharged.
