NSW police charge man with police pursuit and drink driving at Tweed Heads

Police have charged a man following a pursuit through the local streets of Tweed Heads today.

Shortly after 4pm (Wednesday 25 September 2019), an officer attached to Northern Region Highway Patrol, detected a commodore driving on Kennedy Drive, Tweed Heads, at speed.

The officer activated warning devices and attempted to pull the vehicle over, however the driver accelerated, and a pursuit was engaged.

The driver continued through local streets of Tweed Heads before the commodore crashed into a power pole and communications box on Florence Street.

The driver, a man aged 46, was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was submitted to a breath analysis.

Police will allege he returned a reading of 0.122 – in the mid-range category of drink driving.

He was charged with police pursuit, mid-range PCA, drive unregistered and uninsured vehicle.

He was refused bail and will appear in Tweed Heads Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 25 September 2019).
