NSW police charge six with traffic, property offences in Moree by Strike Force Jackal

Six people have been charged last week following investigations into a number of traffic and property-related offences in the state’s north.

Strike Force Jackal was established this month to investigate property offences, including the theft of vehicles following break-ins throughout New England Police District.

The Strike Force was assisted by the Bicycle Patrol Operators from Moree, Armidale and Tamworth.

Following inquiries, officers last week arrested and charged two youths – aged 11 and 17 – and four adults in relation to stolen motor vehicles and police pursuits in Moree.

Incidents of note:

  • About 12.10am on Saturday 21 May 2022, a 33-year-old man was arrested at a home on Oak Street, Moree. He was taken to Moree Police Station where he was charged with domestic violence related offences and served an outstanding arrest warrant for larceny. The man was refused bail to appear at Moree Local Court on Monday 4 July 2022.
  • About 2am on Thursday 19 May 2022, officers attached to New England Police District were conducting foot patrols at the intersection of Greenbah Road and Hassell Street, when they stopped and spoke to a man.

Following inquiries, the 34-year-old was arrested and taken to Moree Police Station where he was charged with resist officer in execution of duty and breach of bail. He was refused bail to appear at Moree Local Court on Monday 30 May 2022.

  • Police were conducting foot patrols along Dover Street, Moree, about 8.55pm on Thursday 19 May 2022, when they stopped and spoke with a man.

The 25-year-old man was subject to a search, where officers located and seized cannabis. He was issued a future Court Attendance Notice to appear at Moree Local Court on Monday 20 June 2022.

  • About 10.25pm on Wednesday 18 May 2022, police approached two men sitting in a park at the intersection of Victoria Terrace and Edward Street, Moree.

After speaking with a 41-year-old man, police conducted a search and located cannabis and drug paraphernalia. He was issued a future Court Attendance Notice to appear at Moree Local Court on Monday 27 June 2022.

Investigations will continue under Strike Force Jackal.

The Strike Force consists of officers from the Proactive Crime Team and Crime Prevention Unit within the New England Police District, Western Region Enforcement Squad, Traffic and Highway Command, Youth Command and Dog Unit.
