NSW police charge teen after stealing from elderly at Lake Illawarra

A teenage boy will face court today charged after allegedly breaking into aged-care homes and stealing from elderly residents while they slept.

Between 11pm Wednesday 20 May 2020 and 7am Thursday 21 May 2020, two units in an Albion Park Rail aged-care facility were broken into and personal items stolen.

A short time later, cash was withdrawn from an ATM using the stolen cards.

The matter was reported to police and an investigation commenced by officers from Lake Illawarra Police District.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators executed a search warrant at a home in Albion Park Rail about 3.15pm yesterday (Monday 25 May 2020), and seized clothing and a mobile phone.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of aggravated break, enter and steal, and dishonestly obtain property by deception.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in a children’s court today (Tuesday 26 May 2020).
