NSW police charge teenager over NYE assault at Evans Head

Police have today charged another teenager over an alleged assault on the Far North Coast on New Year’s Day.

About 1.50am on Wednesday 1 January 2020, a 20-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were walking west along Oak Street, Evans Head, when a group of people ran towards them.

Five people allegedly punched and kicked the pair while they were on the ground.

The man and woman received injuries to their body, nose, arms and legs and required medical treatment.

The alleged assault was uploaded to social media and inquiries were initiated by detectives from Richmond Police District.

About 2.10pm (Tuesday 21 January 2020), officers arrested a 14-year-old boy at Casino Police Station and charged him with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company, affray and common assault.

He was released on strict conditional bail and is due to appear before the Casino Children’s Court on the 25th February 2020.

Investigations are continuing.
