NSW police charge teens after pursuit

Two teens have been charged with multiple offences following a pursuit through the Hunter region yesterday.

In the early hours of Sunday (29 January 2023), a Kia Seltos SUV was reportedly stolen from Calgaroo Avenue, Muswellbrook, after unknown person/s gained entry to the home and took personal items including the vehicles keys.

Officers from Hunter Valley Police District were notified and commenced inquiries.

Just before 3pm, the Kia was seen travelling on Campbell Street, Singleton. A pursuit was initiated after the vehicle failed to stop. It was terminated shortly after due to safety concerns.

Police continued to monitor the Kia as it travelled to the Maitland area before losing sight of the vehicle on New England Highway at Rutherford.

Shortly after, the Kia was found abandoned on Kristen Close. With the assistance of the Dog Unit, police located two boys, aged 15, at a nearby unit.

They were arrested and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station where they were charged with aggravated break and enter dwelling in company – steal, steal motor vehicle, larceny, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly.

Additionally, one was also charged with breach of bail.

They have both been refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Monday 30 January 2023).
