NSW police charge teens after pursuit of stolen vehicle at Guildford

Two teenagers have been charged after a pursuit with police of an allegedly-stolen vehicle overnight.

Just before midnight (Tuesday 4 February 2020), officers from Cumberland Police Area Command had a vehicle stopped on Desmond Street, Merrylands West, when a Nissan Pulsar drove past at speed.

The vehicle had been reported stolen from a Yennora address on Sunday 19 January 2020.

Police followed the car and attempted to stop it; however, the driver failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.

A short time later, the car hit a power pole on Fowler Road, Guildford, and the two occupants fled.

With the assistance of additional police, a perimeter was established, and a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl were arrested nearby.

They were taken to Granville Police Station and charged.

The boy, from Merrylands, has been charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, and take and drive conveyance without consent of owner.

He has been refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Wednesday 5 February 2020).

The girl, from Whalan, has been charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

She has been granted conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Wednesday 4 March 2020.
