NSW police charge two after man injured during armed robbery at Parramatta

A man and a woman have been arrested after a man was struck by an axe in western Sydney yesterday.

Just before 11am (Thursday 13 May 2021), officers from Parramatta Police Area Command were called to a licensed premises on Hassall Street, Parramatta, after reports of a robbery.

Police were told a 37-year-old man was inside a bathroom when he was approached by another man who demanded a poker machine payout ticket. When the man refused, he was struck with an axe and his wallet was taken.

The man and a woman then left the scene.

The injured man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for wounds to his face and taken to Westmead Hospital where he is in a stable condition. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Following inquires, a short time later, a 28-year-old man was arrested at Little Street, Parramatta, and 35-year-old woman was arrested at Hassall Street, Parramatta. Both were taken to Parramatta Police Station.

The man was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon cause wounding/grievous bodily harm.

The woman was charged with accessory after the fact robbery armed/in company.

Both were refused bail and will appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Friday 14 May 2021).
