NSW police charge two men after fatal crash

Two men are due in court next month charged over a fatal crash near Grafton last year.

Emergency services were called to Swan Creek, near Grafton, about 6pm on Friday 6 August 2021, following reports a Mazda Bravo had been damaged while travelling on Big River Way.

Officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District attended and found a 50m roll of fencing had landed on the bonnet, impacting heavily with the windscreen.

The Mazda driver, a 35-year-old man, was treated at the scene by paramedics and airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

The man died in hospital on Sunday 8 August 2021.

The two passengers of the vehicle, an eight-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy, were not injured.

A crime scene which was later examined by specialist police from the Far North Coast Crash Investigation Unit (CIU).

Following inquiries, officers attached to the Far North Coast CIU issued a 45-year-old man with a court attendance notice on Tuesday 25 October 2022, for dangerous driving occasioning death – accessory before the fact and drive unsafely loaded vehicle death/injury occur.

Additionally, investigators issued a 67-year-old man with a court attendance notice yesterday (Thursday 3 November 2022), for dangerous driving occasioning death and drive unsafely loaded vehicle death/injury occur.

Both men are due to appear at Grafton Local Court on Monday 5 December 2022.
