NSW police charge two men after investigation into suspicious betting on Dally

Two men have been charged as part of an ongoing investigation into suspicious betting activity identified during the NRL’s annual awards night last year.

In November 2019, Strike Force Mirrabei was established by the Organised Crime Squad’s Casino and Racing Investigation Unit (CRIU) after the NRL Integrity Unit reported suspicious betting activity on the 2019 Dally M Coach of the Year Award.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force investigators executed search warrants at two separate residences in Paddington and Waterloo and a business premises in Surry Hills last Wednesday (20 May 2020).

During the searches, police located and seized documentation, electronic devices and computers.

About 9am today (Thursday 28 May 2020), detectives issued two men – aged 29 and 31 – with Court Attendance Notices (CANs), charged with use inside information to bet on event and possess inside information communicate to other to bet on event.

Police will allege in court that the men placed bets on the 2019 Dally M Coach of the Year Award winner with prior knowledge of the result.

It will also be alleged that they shared information with other individuals, who in turn placed bets with various betting agencies.

The men are due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 20 August 2020.

Investigations under Strike Force Mirrabei are continuing.
