NSW police charge two over attempted kidnapping at Drummoyne

Detectives have charged two men over the attempted kidnapping of a man in Sydney’s Inner West as part of an ongoing investigation into the serious assault and kidnapping of another man last year.

About 12.30pm on Monday 25 November 2019, two men entered a workshop on Links Road, St Marys, and allegedly assaulted a 36-year-old man using a firearm.

During the assault, the man was knocked unconscious before being kidnapped by the pair.

About 10.30am the following day (Tuesday 26 November 2019), the man was located in a shed on a property at Shanes Park by three members of the public, who contacted emergency services.

The man was taken to hospital in a critical condition and treated for a fractured skull and severe injuries to his head and body. He has since been released from hospital.

The State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad, with assistance from Nepean Police Area Command, commenced inquiries under Strike Force Methuen.

During the investigation, police were made aware of the attempted kidnapping of another man about 4.40pm on Friday 6 March 2020.

Officers were told, two men attempted to force the man into a Toyota Hilux following an alleged staged two-vehicle crash on Victoria Road at Drummoyne.

The man resisted and was able to escape, before the two men fled the area on foot.

So far during the investigation, police have charged three men – aged 36, 39 and 40. The men remain before the courts.

Following further inquiries, strike force detectives, with assistance from the South West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad (RES) and the North West Metropolitan Operations Support Group (OSG), executed two search warrants at homes in Fairfield and Glenmore Park from 6am today (Thursday 23 April 2020).

During the searches, officers seized mobile phones, clothing, steroids and a motor vehicle.

A 23-year-old man was arrested at the Fairfield home and taken to Fairfield Police Station.

He was charged with attempt take/detain in company with intent to get advantage occasion actual bodily harm, assault person intend criminal activity of criminal group and install/use tracking device to find person no consent.

The man was refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court today.

A 27-year-old man was arrested at the Glenmore Park home and taken to Penrith Police Station.

He was charged with attempt take/detain in company with intent to get advantage occasion actual bodily harm, assault person intend criminal activity of criminal group, install/use tracking device to find person no consent and drive licence suspended under s 66 Fines Act.

Police will allege in court that the men were involved in the attempted kidnapping of a 52-year-old man at Drummoyne last month.

He was refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court today.

Investigations under Strike Force Methuen are continuing.
