NSW police charge two over carjacking

Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives have charged two men following an alleged carjacking and attempted carjacking in Sydney’s west last month.

Around 11.10pm on Tuesday 6 December 2022, a 20-year-old woman was driving on Prairie Vale Road, Bossley Park, when she came to a stop at the Cowpasture Road intersection.

It’s alleged a man approached the driver’s side door and attempted to open it, without success. He ran off as the woman drove away.

About 15 minutes later, a 29-year-old man was driving and came to a stop at the same intersection, when two men approached his driver’s side door and demanded he exit the vehicle.

Police will allege when he refused to get out of the car – a Mazda 3 sedan – one of the men opened the passenger’s side door and threatened him with a firearm.

He exited the sedan before the two men jumped in the vehicle and drove away.

The 29-year-old man managed to flag down another car and contacted police.

Local officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command commenced initial inquiries, before detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Karrabah.

Following inquiries, strike force investigators arrested an 18-year-old man during a vehicle stop at George Street, South Windsor, about 1pm yesterday (Wednesday 4 January 2023), and took him to Windsor Police Station.

Investigators – with assistance from South West Metropolitan Operations Support Group – simultaneously executed three search warrants at properties in Bossley Park, Edensor Park and Doonside, where officers located and seized a vehicle, and electronic devices, all which will undergo further forensic examination.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested at the Doonside property and taken to Blacktown Police Station.

Both the older man and the teenage boy were charged with attempt in company rob while armed with dangerous weapon and in company rob while armed with dangerous weapon.

The Bossley Park man was refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court today (Thursday 5 January 2023), while the teenage boy was refused bail to face a children’s court today.

Investigations under Strike Force Karrabah are continuing.
