NSW police charge woman after boy riding scooter hit by car

A driver has been charged after a boy was hit by a car while riding his scooter in Sydney’s east yesterday.

About 3.25pm (Friday 11 December 2020), emergency services were called to the intersection of Nelson and Oxford streets, Bondi Junction, following reports a child had been hit by a car.

Police were told the 10-year-old boy was crossing the road when he was hit by the car.

The boy suffered serious leg injuries and was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

The driver, a 21-year-old woman, was subjected to a roadside breath test which returned a negative result.

She was arrested and taken to Waverley Police Station, where she was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous, and negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm).

The woman was granted condition bail and is due to appear before Waverley Local Court on Tuesday 19 January 2021.
