North Sydney Streets returns with three big community celebrations

North Sydney Council

North Sydney Streets will return for 2026-27 with three free events bringing local streets to life with food, music, entertainment and community activities across Kirribilli, the North Sydney CBD and Crows Nest.

The series, which is proudly funded by the NSW Government’s Open Streets Program, led by Transport for NSW, is designed to celebrate the distinctive character of each area while showcasing local businesses, performers, artists and community groups.

The celebrations kick off on Burton, Bligh and Broughton streets in Kirribilli on Saturday 28 November 2026, with a special edition of North Sydney Streets marking the 50th anniversary of the Kirribilli Neighbourhood Centre and Markets from 9am to 3pm.

The village will come together for a milestone birthday celebration, with live entertainment, great food, market stalls and family fun.

Then, on Friday 5 February 2027, it will be time to clock off and head outside as North Sydney Streets: CBD After Dark takes over Denison, Mount and Spring streets from 4pm to 9pm.

The evening event will bring workers, residents and visitors together in the heart of the CBD for food, outdoor dining and live entertainment, creating a place to unwind and connect at the end of the working week.

The series concludes in Crows Nest on Saturday 20 March 2027, when Willoughby Road between Falcon and Albany streets will become a community-focused event precinct from 9am to 3pm.

The Crows Nest event will showcase the village’s local businesses and community, with seating, games, live entertainment and outdoor dining alongside a special edition of the Rotary Markets which includes the Big Japanese Market at Ernest Place.

North Sydney Mayor Zoë Baker said the series was about creating opportunities for people to experience their neighbourhoods differently and spend time together.

“North Sydney Streets is about bringing people together and creating a greater sense of connection and belonging across our community.

“It’s an opportunity to get outside, connect with neighbours, enjoy our local businesses and experience familiar streets in a different way. Each event will celebrate the unique character of Kirribilli, the North Sydney CBD and Crows Nest, and the people and businesses that make these neighbourhoods such special places.

“We’re proud to partner with the NSW Government to bring these events to life, with funding from Transport for NSW helping us create welcoming, vibrant streets where our community can come together.”

North Sydney Streets is a three-year initiative running from 2025 to 2028 and is proudly funded through the NSW Government’s Open Streets Program, led by Transport for NSW.

Council was awarded a $350,000 grant through the Program to deliver the event series over three years.

Minister for Transport, Minister for Music and the Night-Time Economy, John Graham said: “Too often our main streets are something we drive through, rather than drive to. The Open Streets Program is helping councils transform local roads into vibrant public spaces where people can gather, connect and support local businesses.

“Since coming to office the Minns Labor Government has been working hard to bring more fun back to Sydney after a decade of lockouts, lockdowns and overregulation. Cutting red tape and supporting events like North Sydney Streets are a key part of that agenda.”
