A woman will face court today charged after allegedly defrauding a small rural school of fundraising money over a five-year period.
In September 2019, detectives from The Hume Police District commenced an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds by a former volunteer of the school.
Following extensive inquiries, a 50-year-old woman was arrested at a home in Goulburn yesterday (Tuesday 23 June 2020).
Investigators executed a search warrant at the woman’s home, seizing documentation and computer equipment for examination.
The woman was taken to Goulburn Police Station, where she was charged with:
– dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception (x7),
– deal with identity info to commit indictable offence (x6), and
– publish false misleading material to obtain advantage (x5)
It’s alleged between June 2015 and September 2019 the woman used her position as a volunteer at the school to fraudulently obtain almost $4,000 raised through various fundraisers.
It’s further alleged the woman applied for several credit cards using the personal details of a woman that was known to her.
She was refused bail and is due to face Wollongong Local Court today (Wednesday 24 June 2020).
Inquiries are continuing.
