NSW police investigate Riverwood shooting

Police are investigating after a man was shot during a carjacking at Riverwood yesterday.

Just before 5.30pm (Tuesday 31 December 2019), emergency services responded to Jindalee Place, after reports a man had been shot.

Officers from Campsie Police Area Command found a 26-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Police have been told a stolen Mercedes Benz had been travelling on the M5 and was involved in a collision with an Audi on the Belmore Road off-ramp.

The vehicle failed to stop, drove through a fence and into Rotary Park where the two occupants fled on foot, chased by witnesses.

The pair approached a Kia Rio parked in nearby Jindalee Place and threatened the driver with a firearm.

The injured man refused to get out before and was shot in the leg before being pushed out of the vehicle. The man and woman then drove off.

The injured man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to St George Hospital in a stable condition. His injuries are not considered life threatening.

Detectives from Campsie Police Area Command have commenced an investigation into the incident.
