NSW police investigating after assault with sporting goods at Nowra

A man has been charged and an investigation is underway to locate two other men, following the alleged assault of a man in Nowra at the weekend.

About 11pm Saturday (25 April 2020), a 40-year-old man was sitting in his vehicle on Filter Road, West Nowra, when an unknown man started banging on the window.

As the 40-year-old man got out of his vehicle, the unknown man returned with two other men, each armed with a golf club, hockey stick and shovel.

The man was struck in the back by the golf club, before being hit several times with the shovel and hockey stick.

The men then allegedly demanded cash and a mobile phone.

As the 40-year-old man negotiated to get his phone back, a police car turned into the street.

Two of the men fled on foot and the third, allegedly bearing the golf club, was apprehended. He was released a short time later pending further inquiries.

The 40-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Following extensive inquiries, a 20-year-old man was re-arrested at a home in West Nowra earlier this week (Monday 27 April 2020) and charged with aggravated robbery.

He appeared in Wollongong Local Court yesterday (Tuesday 28 April 2020), and remains bail refused, to appear in Nowra Local Court on Tuesday 7 July 2020.

As investigations into the alleged assault continue, police are appealing for anyone with information about the two unknown men to come forward.
