An investigation is underway after a vehicle failed to stop for police in the Sydney CBD.

About 1:30pm today (Thursday 13 May 2021), officers from Sydney City Police Area Command responded to reports of persons acting suspiciously in a carpark in Castlereagh Street, Sydney.

As the officers approached a dark green hatchback the vehicle has reversed causing the officers to take evasive action to avoid being struck. The vehicle has then driven through a boom gate.

A man who was in the nearby vicinity ran from the scene before police could speak with him.

The vehicle was seen a short time later driving the wrong way along Randle Street, Surry Hills, before again being sighted in the light rail corridor in Elizabeth Street and then in Eddy Avenue.

Police have attempted to stop the vehicle on Pitt Street where it failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued into Broadway where the vehicle had a minor collision with a Mercedes sedan before police terminated the pursuit at the intersection of Broadway and City Road. The vehicle was last seen heading west along Parramatta Road.

The driver on the Mercedes was not injured.

New South Wales registration plates displayed on the vehicle were CR05WW. Inquiries established that this registration did not match the vehicle in question.

Images of the vehicle and a man who may be able to assist police with their inquiries have been released. The man is described as Caucasian, aged between 25 to 30 years of age, large build wearing a dark blue “Fila” brand jumper, light coloured shorts and dark shoes.

Police are also appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have dashcam or other footage to contact Sydney City Police Area Command on (02) 9265-6499 or Crime Stoppers on 1800-333-000.
