NSW police lay charges after man stabbed at Lake Illawarra

Police have charged a man over the alleged stabbing of another man in the state’s Illawarra region overnight.

About 12.40am today (Thursday 3 February 2022), police were called to a unit at Cowper Street, Warrawong, following reports a 27-year-old man had been stabbed multiple times by a man known to him.

Police were told a 22-year-old man attended the unit before a physical altercation ensued between the pair.

The older man was allegedly kicked in the face, before being stabbed several times in the abdomen and upper left leg by the younger man, who then fled the scene.

The injured man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Wollongong Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District were notified, and with assistance from the Dog Unit, conducted an extensive search of the area and located the younger man hiding in bushes nearby.

He was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The Nowra man was refused bail and is due to appear at Wollongong Local Court today.
