NSW police lay charges after one teen dies, four injured in Central Coast crash

A man has been charged over a crash in which a teenager died on the Central Coast at the weekend.

About 4.30am (Saturday 21 March 2020), emergency services responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash on Washington Avenue, Niagara Park, and found four teenaged boys seriously injured; one, aged 17, died at the scene.

A 17-year-old youth from Terrigal remains in Royal North Shore Hospital, while an 18-year-old man from Wyoming, is in John Hunter Hospital. A 17-year-old youth, from Ourimbah, is being treated in Gosford Hospital. Police have been told all are now in a stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

The alleged driver, an 18-year-old man, was arrested and placed under police guard by officers attached to Brisbane Water Police District, after being admitted to Gosford Hospital on Saturday.

On his release from hospital last night (Sunday 22 March 2020), he was taken to Woy Woy Police Station where he has now been charged by officers from the Crash Investigation Unit with five offences:

• Dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous

• Dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous

• Negligent driving (occasioning death)

• Negligent driving (occasioning grievous bodily harm), and

• P1 driver – less than 25 – drive at night with more than one passenger less than 21 years.

The man, from Ourimbah, has been refused bail to appear in Gosford Local Court today (Monday 23 March 2020.
