NSW police officer assaulted; man charged

A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a police officer in the Snowy Mountains at the weekend.

About 2.30pm on Saturday 6 March 2021, a male senior constable attended a home in Batlow and spoke with the male occupant.

As the officer was leaving the location, the 21-year-old man allegedly hit the officer in the head with an unknown object and punched him multiple times, before biting him on the forearm.

A member of the public stopped to provide assistance to the officer.

The man was arrested and taken to hospital for assessment. He was not injured as a result of the incident.

The officer was taken to Wagga Base Hospital for treatment to a broken wrist and lacerations.

Following inquiries, the 21-year-old man was arrested at a home in Batlow earlier today (Monday 8 March 2021) and taken to Tumbarumba Police Station.

He was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, and was granted conditional bail to appear in Tumbarumba Local Court on Thursday 6 May 2021.
