NSW police seek witnesses to fatal crash at Freshwater

Police investigating the death of a pedestrian in a hit-and-run collision on Sydney’s Northern Beaches are seeking help from the public.

About 5.45am on Saturday 22 February 2020, emergency services were called to Oliver Street, Freshwater, following reports a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.

On arrival, officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command found a 66-year-old man with critical injuries. He was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital, where he later died.

He was later formally identified as Antonio ‘Tony’ Plati.

The vehicle, believed to have struck him, did not stop after the collision.

Strike Force Clarefield has been established by detectives from Northern Beaches Police Area Command and the Crash Investigation Unit to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

As their inquiries continue, investigators are seeking the public’s assistance to help identify the vehicle involved in the crash.

Police believe the driver of a 4WD or similar vehicle towing a trailer might be able to assist with inquiries.

Investigators are also appealing for any motorists who might have been in the Freshwater area around the time of the crash and have dashcam footage to come forward.
