NT Covid update 18 February

The Northern Territory is today reporting the death of a man in his 50s with COVID-19.

The man was from Katherine, had underlying health conditions and passed away at Katherine Hospital.

There have now been 14 COVID-19 related deaths recorded in the NT since the start of the pandemic.

There were 1,027 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the NT in the 24 hours to 8pm on 17 February 2022. Of these, 935 were positive cases from a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT).

There were 520 cases recorded in the Top End region, 198 in Central Australia, 123 in East Arnhem, 34 in the Big Rivers region, 37 in the Barkly region and 115 are under investigation.

There are currently 127 patients in hospital, with 18 patients requiring oxygen. There is one patient in ICU.

The number of active cases in the NT is about 6,856.

Public health measures

To slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community and reduce the rate of transmission, the following public health measures are in place across the NT:

  • A Territory-wide indoor mask mandate
  • It is highly recommended that all people aged 12 years and over wear a mask outdoors when physical distancing cannot be applied
  • The Territory Vaccine Pass
