NYE celebrations in City to go ahead as a fundraiser for Vinnie’s SA Bushfire Appeal 2019

New Year’s Eve is almost here and while we’re looking forward to all getting together as a community to bring in the New Year, we know that many South Australians have been hit hard by bushfires across a number of regions in the lead up to Christmas and the New Year.

Our hearts go out to those impacted by the fires and we share the community’s sadness and empathy for those affected.

New Year’s Eve in Elder Park provides an opportunity for the community to come together in a family-friendly environment to look forward to the new year with hope and optimism, while reflecting on the year that has just gone by.

While we appreciate the suggestion to cancel our New Year’s Eve fireworks and reallocate the funding to bushfire relief, our fireworks are planned and contracted months in advance. With the night now so close, many people would have already planned their trip into the city to watch the fireworks from the park or in one of the many venues adjacent the Riverbank.

We are instead encouraging people who attend the event to donate to the Vinnies SA Bushfire Appeal and will have volunteers on the ground collecting donations that will go directly to those people affected. Alternatively, people can visit the website and make a donation:
