Police patrols in Takanini thwarted the getaway of two offenders who had allegedly just carried out a burglary.
Early this morning, at around 1.45am, a unit was deployed on Great South Road.
Counties Manukau South Area Commander, Inspector Joe Hunter says the officers noticed a fog cannon had activated in a block of shops.
“Upon further inspection the fog cannon had activated at a vape store and its alarm was sounding.
“Our staff located two young males walking away from the area and they were stopped.”
The pair had allegedly managed to force their way into the store.
“While they had managed to get into the store, the activation of the fog cannon has forced them to leave the store,” Inspector Hunter says.
“We have since recovered items that were taken from the store, including cash.”
The pair, aged 16 and 17, have since been referred to Youth Aid.
Meanwhile, Police also arrested a 23-year-old man following a burglary at a Papakura charity shop earlier in the night.
“Our staff responded to a report at around 10.30pm from the public who had seen suspicious activity occurring at the store.”
Police arrived on scene on O’Shannessey Street and took the man into custody.
Police continue to take offending against businesses seriously and are holding offenders accountable, Inspector Hunter says.
“Alongside our regular deployments, we are continuing to conduct high visibility patrols across Counties Manukau South around shopping malls and shopping strips.”
