Off-duty officer charged over Wyee crash, NSW

An off-duty police officer has been charged following an investigation into a two-vehicle crash in the Lake Macquarie region last month.

About 9.30am on Saturday 18 July 2020, emergency services were called to Wyee Road, Wyee, after reports a Jeep and a Hyundai Santa Fe collided head-on.

The Jeep driver and sole occupant, a 37-year-old man, was trapped for an hour before being released.

The Hyundai driver, a 48-year-old woman, sustained serious leg and internal injuries.

Her passenger, a 13-year-old boy, suffered a broken wrist.

They were all treated at the scene before being taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Following inquiries, about 11am today (Monday 24 August 2020), the 37-year-old man, who is a senior constable attached to Central Metropolitan Region, was issued a Court Attendance Notice for aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm- drive speed dangerous, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm- drive manner dangerous, cause bodily harm by misconduct in charge of motor vehicle (x2), negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm), drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm), and not keep left of dividing line.

He is due to appear at Toronto Local Court on 6 October 2020.
