Offender’s Milk Run Curdled

Eastern District Police have arrested one person after a report of an armed robbery at a Waipukurau commercial premises last night.

Around 7pm, a man entered a store on Takapau Road asking about milk. He then lifted his shirt, flashing what appeared to be a firearm to the attendant.

Thankfully, no one was harmed and no items were taken.

The man soon left the premises as a passenger in a vehicle.

Police attended armed as a precaution and quickly identified the offender and undertook enquiries to locate him.

Patrolling units saw the vehicle of interest speeding on Takapau Road heading towards Waipukurau.

Road policing units made a plan to bring the car to a safe stop by preparing spikes, which were successful on Hatuma Road.

Two people were taken into custody, and the ‘firearm’ was found to be a lighter.

A 39-year-old man has been charged with presenting an object like a firearm and under existing required to arrest orders.

He will appear in Hastings District Court today.
