Officer threatened with knife; man arrested at Wagga Wagga, NSW

A man has been arrested after allegedly threatening a probationary constable with a knife in Wagga Wagga earlier today.

About 12pm (Thursday 25 June 2020), police were called to a unit block on Edward Street, Wagga Wagga, following reports of a dispute between neighbours.

On arrival, a man came out of one of the units armed with a large knife and made threats towards a probationary constable.

The probationary constable drew his Taser and called upon the man to drop his knife. The man went back inside his unit and dropped the weapon.

Further police arrived and spoke with the man, who refused to exit the unit.

Police forced entry to the unit and arrested the 44-year-old man. He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station, where he is currently assisting police with inquiries.

A large carving knife was located inside the unit and seized.

The probationary constable – who attested from Goulburn last week – was not physically injured as a result of the incident.

Inquiries are continuing.
