One dead, man seriously injured after tree falls on car at Katoomba, NSW

One person has died, and another remains in a serious condition in hospital, after a tree fell on a car in Katoomba tonight.

About 7pm (Thursday 11 July 2019) emergency services were called to Victoria Street where they located a Volvo sedan underneath a large fallen tree.

Officers located two occupants inside the vehicle; a female passenger aged in her 40s suffered fatal injuries, while the male driver aged in his 20s was trapped.

The male driver was freed following a rescue operation involving Police Rescue, Fire & Rescue NSW, and NSW Ambulance paramedics. He sustained head and chest injuries and was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition.

Officers from Blue Mountains Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Victoria Street is currently closed in both directions.
