Operation Victor Boston – Road Safety, Hamilton Island

Whitsundays Police have been undertaking Operation Victor Boston, which is aimed at targeting road safety across Hamilton Island.

Promoting and enhancing road safety is a key priority for Mackay and Whitsunday police, whose focus remains to reduce the devastation of the road toll, with 22 lives lost on Mackay District roads last year (2022).

Targeting the fatal five – speeding, intoxication (drugs and/or alcohol), failure to wear a seat belt, driver fatigue and distraction – Mackay officers conduct regular proactive patrols and operations within the district.

Officers conducting Operation Victor Boston have so far charged more than 30 people with drink driving offences and issued over 20 traffic infringement notices.

Everyone has a role to play in reducing road trauma, drivers, passengers, and community members alike.

Members of the Mackay and Whitsundays community are urged to report unsafe driving behaviour via Policelink online or by phoning 131 444.
