Operation Victor Cord: Homicide investigation at Noosa Heads, QLD

Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch detectives have launched Operation Victor Cord following the suspicious death of an elderly man at Noosa Heads this morning, June 18.

Initial investigations indicate at approximately 6am, an 87-year-old local man was located unconscious on a path along the beachfront at the northern end of Hastings Street.

He had sustained serious head injuries consistent with assault.

Bystanders assisted the man ahead of the emergency response, however, he died at the scene.

Police took a 27-year-old man into custody without incident approximately 100 metres away on the beachfront soon after and a crime scene was declared.

The man is currently assisting police with their inquiries.

It is believed the two men are not known to each other.

Detectives appeal for witnesses to come forward and urge local businesses and homeowners near the boardwalk 1st groyne, with relevant CCTV captured between midnight and 6am, to come forward.

Investigations remain ongoing.
