Operation Victor Fastback at Townsville

Officers from the Townsville Property Crime Unit, actively responding to stolen vehicle activity, have charged 18 people with 64 offences as part of Operation Victor Fastback over the weekend.

Operation Victor Fastback was launched in January, and since its commencement 739 people have been charged with 2,866 offences.

The results of the Operation highlight Townsville police efforts to hold property offenders accountable on behalf of the Townsville community.

Across the weekend, officers from the Townsville Tactical Crime Squad and Townsville Rapid Action and Patrols supported detectives to actively respond to reports.

It will be alleged just after 11am on Saturday, August 12, police located a stolen vehicle abandoned in Rasmussen.

Investigations led officers to arrest a 19-year-old man who was located nearby, allegedly in possession of the vehicle’s car keys and fuel card.

He was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, police objected to his bail and he is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court today, August 14.

Later on Saturday, August 12, at approximately 3.30pm, it will be alleged a stolen vehicle was involved in a traffic incident at the intersection of Thuringowa Drive and Charles Street in Kirwan.

Police allege four occupants ran from the vehicle and were taken into police custody nearby a short time later.

A 16-year-old boy was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing, police refused bail and he is due to appear at Townsville Childrens Court today, August 14.

A 12-year-old boy was charged unlawful use of a motor vehicle, attempt to enter premises.

He is due to appear at Townsville Childrens Court on August 18.

A 14-year-old girl was charged unlawful use of a motor vehicle and she is scheduled appear at Townsville Childrens Court on August 18.

A 16-year-old girl has been dealt with for unlawful use of a motor vehicle under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

Police further allege at 3am yesterday, August 13, Townsville Rapid Action and Patrols officers successfully disabled a stolen vehicle following a tyre deflation device deployment.

Two teenagers, a 14-year-old girl and 12-year-old girl, were taken into custody.

Both have been dealt with under the Youth Justice Act for unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Police allege on August 10, a 14-year-old boy was located and arrested by Townsville Rapid Action and Patrols officers and handed over to detectives who charged him with robbery in company, enter dwelling with intent, enter premises and commit, enter premises with intent, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and three counts of stealing.

Police objected to his bail before an August 11 appearance at Townsville Childrens Court.

He was issued court bail to reappear on September 22.
