Optus Stadium attraction takes fan experiences to new heights

  • Optus Stadium’s newest and most exhilarating rooftop attraction opens Thursday March 31
  • Visitors to see uninterrupted views of Perth City
  • Thrill seekers can challenge themselves on VERTIGO – peering face-first over the turf below at a height of 42 metres
  • An exciting addition to Optus Stadium’s suite of attractions is set to offer visitors an exhilarating new rooftop experience in a first for Australian stadiums.

To be known as VERTIGO, the new attraction will join the existing HALO rooftop tour, Behind the Scenes Optus Stadium Tour, Game Day rooftop experience and Aboriginal Cultural tours available through THE OZONE at Optus Stadium.

The VERTIGO experience allows fans to walk several metres beyond the edge of the stadium roof. Harnessed from above and with no handrails, the more adventurous can peer over the edge for an uninterrupted view of the field of play.

The Western Viewing Deck, included in both VERTIGO and HALO rooftop experiences, allows people of all abilities to enjoy a unique view of Perth and the Swan River.

Following the ‘fans first’ approach that drives Optus Stadium, a key priority of the McGowan Government was to ensure the roof would be accessible to as many people as possible, with lift access now available to access the roof.

The Western Viewing Deck, VERTIGO and HALO rooftop tour will become the first fully accessible rooftop experience at an Australian stadium.

With safety always the top priority, fans will be fitted with a secure harness during the VERTIGO experience. Lucky visitors to the viewing deck will be able to walk freely to take in the sights.

The new structure weighs 70 tonnes, was built off-site in 15 modular sections and craned into place in the midst of an operational stadium and September’s three AFL finals, including the Grand Final. There are 800 bolts connecting the deck and up to 50 people can be on the deck at one time.

Adding to the rooftop attractions and precinct activities already available, VERTIGO ensures that Optus Stadium and the surrounding Stadium Park are fast becoming Perth’s number one entertainment destination.

As stated by Tourism Minister Roger Cook:

“Since Optus Stadium opened in 2018, the stadium and its surrounding park have provided an exceptional atmosphere for all visitors.

“The suite of attractions offered at Optus Stadium is second to none – both on and off the ground.

“As the first fully accessible stadium rooftop experience in Australia, this really is an attraction that everyone can enjoy.

“With Western Australia’s borders now open, we can expect more visitors to Optus Stadium, and I know this unique experience will be enjoyed by many.

“Having experienced VERTIGO firsthand, I can highly recommend this exhilarating experience.”
