Optus strengthens Hinchinbrook Shire coverage with two new towers

New towers in Lucinda and Saunders Beach will enhance mobile coverage for residents, visitors and businesses

Optus has switched on two new towers in the North Queensland coastal towns of Lucinda and Saunders Beach, further strengthening Optus network capacity across the Hinchinbrook Shire. The new towers will provide people living, working, and visiting the region with a better network experience for calls and downloads.

The Optus tower in Saunders Beach is located behind the towns community centre, while in Lucinda it is located Dungeness Road and Gossner Street.

Member for Hinchinbrook, Nick Dametto MP, is delighted to see the introduction of further competition amongst telecommunications providers in the area and enhanced connectivity for the community.

Lucinda and Saunders Beach are both sought after places to live and visit. Better mobile service allows tourists to capture images, receive emails and share videos of their experiences via social media, which is great for tourism.

Unfortunately, there have traditionally been large portions of the Hinchinbrook electorate that experience very poor and sometimes no mobile service at all so we, as a community, welcome news that Optus has switched on two towers in this region giving residents better connectivity and options when it comes to choosing a network provider, Mr Dametto concluded.

Dave Morrissey, Optus Territory General Manager for North Queensland, said Optus is pleased to provide both communities with greater mobile competition, network reliability and choice.

Were proud to switch on new towers in Lucinda and Saunders Beach, providing both locals and visitors to the area with increased network connectivity, particularly during natural disasters where the ability to stay connected is paramount, said Morrissey.

In Saunders Beach, the tower signals the introduction of Optus 5G to the area and will provide a reliable and fast connection for residents and visitors to the picturesque beach town, as well as the neighbouring area of Toolakea Beach.

The investment to expand Optus telecommunications infrastructure and mobile coverage is part of an ongoing project to improve coverage, reliability, and speed across the Optus mobile network.
