OPTUS SWITCHES ON NEW MOBILE TOWER AT CRADLE MOUNTAIN

Invests more than $4.5 million in mobile coverage across North West Tasmania

Optus today announced it will continue to improve mobile coverage across North West Tasmania after switching on a new mobile tower at Cradle Mountain.

The new tower will address a known black spot identified by the local community and the Tourism Industry council of Tasmania, providing visitors with dedicated 4G mobile coverage to make and receive calls, texts and access mobile data.

Optus Territory General Manager for Tasmania, Peter West said, Cradle Mountain is one of Australias natural wonders and it is important to have strong telecommunications in these significant tourism areas.

Optus remains committed to providing fast and reliable mobile and internet coverage across Tasmania, said Mr West.

Over the last 12-months Optus has invested $4.55 million across the North West region, switching on 7 new sites in Sassafras, Forth, Davenport North, Railton, Romaine West, Lillico and Cradle Mountain.

This financial year, Optus has plans to invest more than $500,000 in its mobile network across the North West Tasmania, working with local communities to improve mobile coverage in the region with plans to build a new mobile tower at Doctors Rocks, Mr West added..

Optus has shown its commitment to providing great coverage to our customers across Tasmania, having increased the number of sites across the State by 25 percent in the last 12 months this significant investment will not only provide improved connectivity for local residents, but also improve mobile coverage for the millions of tourists who visit every year.

The Optus mobile network handles over 31 million calls and 80 million SMS messages each day and carries 16,128 terabytes of data each week. Optus is continuing to expand and strengthen its network to deliver improved data and voice services across metropolitan, regional and remote locations nationally.
