Outcome of Independent Match Review Panel: Isuzu UTE A-League Men 2021/22 21 December

The independent Match Review Panel (MRP) – consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Alan Davidson and Adam D’Apuzzo – convened on Monday, 20 December 2021 to consider the below incidents in matches in Round 5 of the Isuzu UTE A-League Men 2021/22 Regular Season.

Melbourne City FC v Melbourne Victory

The MRP considered an incident involving Jamie Maclaren (Maclaren) of Melbourne City FC in or around the 96th minute of Melbourne City FC’s Round 5 fixture against Melbourne Victory on Saturday, 18 December 2021.

In accordance with the A-League Men Disciplinary Regulations, the MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Maclaren was issued with a direct Red Card by the Referee.

The MRP determined that Maclaren had committed the offence of the “Use of offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures against a Match Official”. The MRP confirmed that Maclaren will serve a suspension of one (1) match, being the Minimum Sanction for the offence.

Newcastle Jets v Macarthur FC

The MRP considered an incident involving Filip Kurto (Kurto) of Macarthur FC in or around the 18th minute of Macarthur FC’s Round 5 fixture against Newcastle Jets on Sunday, 19 December 2021.

In accordance with the A-League Men Disciplinary Regulations, the MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Kurto was issued with a direct Red Card by the Referee.

The MRP determined that Kurto had committed the offence of “Denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, as prescribed in Law 12 of the Laws of the Game”. The MRP confirmed that Kurto will serve a suspension of one (1) match, being the Minimum Sanction for the offence.
