Outdoor dining trial extended for consultation

Council has extended the outdoor dining spacelet program until 31 March 2022 to allow for a comprehensive community consultation process.

Council will be talking to residents, traders and diners over a four-week period from mid-November to mid-December to understand the usage and economic impacts of the spacelet program. Separate surveys for traders and residents will gather data on who uses the spacelets; the flow on effect to non-hospitality businesses; best locations; and a funding model going forward.

Council has removed and reduced some of the spacelets in Melrose Street, Sandringham immediately to alleviate parking pressures.

The extension to the outdoor dining spacelet program will be funded with residual money from the Victorian Government grant and savings from events and celebrations which had to be cancelled due to the COVID pandemic. Council will not be taking applications for additional spacelets at this time. Traders keen to have a spacelet in front of their business will have the opportunity to put forward potential locations for additional spacelets as part of the consultation process.

Council will consider the community and trader feedback at the February 2022 Council meeting and outline a plan for the future of outdoor dining in Bayside.
