Outstanding Community Commitment: Bayside

Mayor Bill Saravinovksi recognised members of the community for their dedication and commitment to Bayside at the September Council Meeting.

“I am extremely proud to be able to recognise these outstanding members of our community,” Mayor Bill Saravinovski said.

“It is important that we continue to acknowledge and encourage the achievements of individuals who contribute to making Bayside a better place.”

Geoff and Joan Rankin were thanked for their dedication to the historic Lydham Hall and the local community.

Joan was part of the original Lydham Hall Committee and Geoff became a member when one of the St George Historical Society members retired.

The Rankins worked tirelessly to promote Council’s historic house, Lydham Hall. Joan and Geoff were instrumental in ensuring the state-heritage listed Lydham Hall was able to be open to the public every Sunday afternoon.

They opened Lydham Hall every Sunday and provided visitors with a guided tour narrating the history of the house.

Council is lucky to have such dedicated residents that gave so much of their knowledge and valuable time to the community.

Angelina Nashaat and her husband, the late Kamahl Nashaat, were honoured for their 33 years of dedicated service at the Eastlakes Newsagency and their contribution to the community.

In 1990, Mr and Mrs Nashaat opened Eastlakes Newsagency in King Street. Eastlakes and in 1998 moved their business to Coward Street.

No matter the location of Mr and Mrs Nashaat’s business, they have always had the support of their local community. They have built strong, long-lasting relationships with their customers and their dedication, hard-work, and positive contributions have not gone unnoticed.

Sadly, Mr Nashaat passed away in 2020. Although Kamahl’s wife and daughter continued to run Eastlakes Newsagency, they have now made the difficult decision to close the newsagency after 33 years.

On behalf of our community Council thanks them for the service they have provided.
