Territory Labor will partner Hospitality NT and 11 licensed venues in the New Year on a mission to find more than 100 skilled UK bar tenders, chefs and wait staff to help the sector cash in on predicted bumper high season.

Under the Partnership the sector will receive a grant up to $200,000 to travel to the UK in February and sign up workers looking to work in Territory pubs, bars and restaurants on holidaymaker visas.

The consortium will use the grant to hold targeted seminars and events in Liverpool, Newcastle, London, Glasgow and Dublin, where they will market the Territory lifestyle to UK hospitality staff, along with Australia’s attractive wage conditions.

Darwin Sailing Club, Charlies of Darwin, The Deck Bar, Good Times Bar and Grill, The Gardens Events and Functions, Smoke & Oak, Nirvana, Eva’s Botanic Gardens Café, Snapper Rocks and Hot Tamale will join the Hospitality NT and NT Government led delegation.

This announcement is first of a series of worker attraction announcements NT Skills and Training Minister Paul Kirby will make between now and Christmas under the $3 million Flexible Workforce Solutions Fund, which tackles critical worker shortages in key industries.

The Flexible Workforce Solutions Fund is a key initiative under the Territory Government’s $12.8 million workforce boost package.

The fund enables business and industry to collaborate to deliver projects and strategies that will attract and retain a workforce and is overseen by a seven member Workforce Advisory Group who include businesses from a broad range of industries.

Grants of up to $200,000 are available on a 25:75 co-contribution basis for projects and activities.
